Mangos (TechnoServ/USAID/Coca Cola/IDB 2015)

This is an evaluation of Haiti Hope Mango Project, supported by USAID, Coca-Cola, and the IDB and implemented by TechnoServe from 2011 to 2015. The research was conducted under the auspices of Socio-Dig, a Haiti-based research company. I think the research is particularly useful for anyone interested in the Haiti agricultural sector and especially exports. The report draws on extensive data we collected, including focus groups and a large survey. But it also draws on a review of archival resources and market studies to highlight many of the mistakes aid agencies have made promoting exports in Haiti. It covers everything from the evolution of the Francique Mango in Haiti, the massive amounts of money spent promoting mangoes, the ANEM cartel, value of different mango varieties on the local Haitian market, the rise of the Dominican Mango industry. and how most of the money passed to organizations such as Chemonics who claim to promote processing of mangoes has disappeared with little to nothing to show as results.
